MOT Testing
We are approved by VOSA (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency) to carry out MOTs. What is an MOT? Originally called the Ministry of Transportation Test, an MOT is an annual examination of a vehicle that is three years old or more. Vehicle goes under a statutory examination of all the major components to ensure that they have not worn to a level which makes the vehicle unsafe to drive and the vehicle complies with a minimum safety standard as defined by the VOSA. It is important to remember that an MOT pass confirms that the vehicle has met certain minimum legal requirements. It does not mean that the vehicle will meet or will continue to be roadworthy the following year. When does my car need an MOT? It is your responsibility to ensure that your vehicle is examined every 12 months. Without an MOT certificate, you will be unable to renew your road tax. Having a current MOT certificate is also a legal requirement in the UK You can book a MOT up to 28 days in advance of its due date. In fact it is not widely known that the expiry date on your new MOT is in 12 months from the expiry of your old one. This means you could have a MOT that last 13 months What do I need to take with me? Once you have booked your vehicle in for its MOT, remember to take your Registration Document, if it is your vehicle’s first MOT and a means of paying the current fee. What should I do if the car fails its MOT? If the vehicle fails its MOT and it does not meet legal requirements, the vehicle must be repaired to comply with MOT Test standards. The report your Nominated Tester gives you will help you. If you think the Nominated Tester has been unfair you can appeal against the decision. Ask for a VT17 form that explains what to do. Tyres

The condition of your tyres and the choice of manufacturer are very important to the performance of your vehicle.

It is important that you regularly check the tyre pressure for high performance, reliability and durability. Over-inflated tyres can damage the tyre structure and will cause wear to the centre of the tyre, whilst under-inflated tyre will call cause irregular tyre wear and damage to the side wall.

It is also very vital to check the tread of the tyre. The deeper the tread depth the more grip your tyres will have. Do not let your tread depths wear down to the raised rubber strips at the bottom of the main tread grooves as this indicates there is only 1.6 mm of tread remaining. According to the Law the tyre should have a minimum of 1.6 mm of tread across the centre three-quarters of the tyre. These are minimum standards and should not be regarded as the norm
